Brown Sugar Bourbon
Brown Sugar Bourbon is a brand of bourbon whiskey produced by Heritage Distilling Co., a craft distillery based in Gig Harbor, Washington. The brand was founded in 2012 by Jennifer and Justin Stiefel, who were inspired by their love of bourbon and their desire to create a unique, handcrafted spirit.
Production Process
Brown Sugar Bourbon is crafted using a traditional column still distillation process. The bourbon is made from a mash bill of 70% corn, 20% rye, and 10% barley. The grains are sourced from local farms to ensure the highest quality and consistency. The mash bill is cooked and fermented on-site at the distillery, before being distilled and aged in new, charred American oak barrels.
Aging and Selection
The bourbon is aged for a minimum of 2-3 years in a combination of new and used barrels. The barrels are stored in a temperature-controlled warehouse to ensure a consistent aging process. Once the bourbon has reached the desired age, it is carefully selected and blended to create a consistent flavor profile.
Bottling and Packaging
Brown Sugar Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) and packaged in a distinctive bottle with a brown sugar-inspired label design. The bottle features a warm, golden color scheme that evokes the rich, caramel flavors of the bourbon.
Flavor Profile
Brown Sugar Bourbon has a rich, sweet flavor profile that is characterized by notes of:
- Brown sugar and caramel: The bourbon’s sweet and creamy notes are balanced by the charred oak barrels, which impart a rich, caramel flavor.
- Vanilla and oak: The bourbon’s sweet notes are balanced by the oak barrels, which impart a subtle, woody flavor.
- Fruit and spices: The bourbon’s fruit notes are balanced by a hint of spices, which adds a touch of complexity to the flavor profile.
Awards and Accolades
Brown Sugar Bourbon has received numerous awards and accolades, including:
- Gold Medal: San Francisco World Spirits Competition (2019)
- Silver Medal: International Whisky Competition (2018)
- Bronze Medal: Whisky Magazine’s World Whiskies Awards (2017)
